Dozy Mmobuosi has earlier expressed his interest in acquiring English Football club, Sheffield United
Nigerian businessman Dozy Mmobuosi is set to introduce a new football club in Lagos called Club 1472, as his attempt to purchase Sheffield United has collapsed, Soccernet.ng reports.
Previously, Dozy was close to finalizing a deal to acquire ownership of the English club for around £115 million. However, the takeover fell apart due to an agreement not being reached.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, Mmobuosi’s relationship with the current owner of Sheffield United, Prince Abdullah, deteriorated to the point that the Championship side’s ownership deal is now in serious doubt.
Nevertheless, the Nigerian tycoon has established a new team, named 1472 FC, in Lagos. This new club is expected to compete with teams like Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos.
A statement from the club reads: “From dreams to reality, from aspirations to achievements, prepare to be mesmerized as we step into the spotlight, weaving a tale of passion, skill, and unyielding determination. Get ready as we unveil our legacy, from dreams to reality, from aspirations to achievements.”
Additionally, Club 1472 has registered with the Nigeria National League, which is the second tier of the Nigeria Premier Football League. Coach Otega Deniran will lead the team in their upcoming matches.
Their opening match of the season will no longer be against Dakkada FC but against Nasarawa United, making it a highly anticipated contest.
