“I am not watching them” – Vincent Enyeama reveals he knows nothing about Super Eagles goalkeeping struggles

Vincent Enyeama retired from International duties in 2015 after falling out with the Nigerian Football Federation over safety issues…

Ex-Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, has revealed he had no idea the Nigerian National team had goalkeeping problems, mentioning he doesn’t watch Nigerian football, Soccernet.ng reports.

Enyeama, 41, racked up a hundred and one appearances for the Super Eagles between 2002 and 2015, featuring in three FIFA World Cups, and was deputy captain of the team that won the 2013 AFCON tournament.

The ex-Lille goalkeeper, now retired, announced his retirement from the national team in 2015 after a fall-out with the football governing body in Nigeria.

In light of a recent interview, Enyeama revealed that he felt he was treated like a piece of material, and since then, he chose not to watch Nigerian football.

“Sincerely, I’ve not been following Nigerian football right from the day I left. With due respect, I was treated like a piece of material, so I put up a block between myself and the national team and only recently started to follow what is happening,” the former Enyimba goalkeeper told Hotsports NG.

A CAF Champions League winner with Enyimba, Enyeama mentioned he felt deeply hurt by what happened between himself and the NFF.

“I stopped watching the national team football because I was deeply hurt, but now I’m at ease. I’ve changed chapters. I can’t really say much about the national team and the goalkeeping because I am not watching them,” He added.

A lot of Nigerian football fans have been wanting to hear from the legendary goalkeeper after underwhelming performances by Omonia S.C.’s Francis Uzoho, but he clarified that he had nothing to say.

Nigeria have only picked up two points from their opening two games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

  • congratulations to you Vincent, African mentality, you made loads of money while playing in Europe, but you still have a a bone to pick with your country to the point of not watching Nigeria games , shame, no wonder the your European counterparts said Africa will NEVER win world cup no matter how many good players they have around the world, they said they only cares about money and never about their countries, it's really a shame , your experience is in need now but alas ,you are still angry because probably you didn't get your bonuses.Anyway don't worry, Nigeria has been there before you and Nigeria will be there if you like it or not.

    • You don't just come on social media to comment over people's grief, you know nothing about what they passed through. The fact that you have cell phone and network should not permit you to type anything you feel like.

    • Lolz...
it is even very clear that you did not read the whole story... you only commented based on the half information from the headline.
Secondly, I can bet that you were not an active follower of Nigeria football around 2010 to 2015. Else you would have known the full story of what happened.
Finally, with all that happened to Enyeama, if he were to be your blood brother I don't think you type this "yeye" for here.

    • if you is treated like Vicente your behavior will be the worse ever so don't go there because our country Nigeria is corrupt our leader in all angles their full of corruption s

  • He was treated Like shyte and His decision was right on the Money. You were probably to young to remember what transpired then. Pls get some Info before conderming him.

    • He is an adult, has his resentments with the national team and entitled to his opinion.
If you're not wearing his shoes you don't know where it pinches.

  • Vincent is always sounding bitter ,at the tale end of your career maybe things didn't go the way you like it ,that does not mean you will not remember yesterday, Nigeria supper eagles gave a plate form to succeed in your career, they made you relevant, how many world cup did you go through the super eagles,if you are not watching them other people are watching.

    • you people should stop telling lies all in the name of comments.
Super Eagles did not make to succeed... Enyimba international FC of Aba made him who he is today... He won CAF champions league back to back with Enyimba and was saving penalties like child's play... that's when he discovered by super Eagles.

  • unfortunately Enyema will pass this bitterness to his children and the circle continues. This is toxic to say the least.

  • see comments! Nigeria can't be treating people like fools all the time and stand back to claim non patriotism. Thank God you are finding space in your heart to forgive. Those that don't know the story can have their say but not their way.

  • Those of you who believe his action against the country he proudly represents is not justifiable, I have a prayer for you. May Nigeria happen to you.

  • Nigeria is one place you'll beat a child and still force him not to cry. We can't claim to be ignorant of what Enyeama is pointing at, it's a trend with NFF and it's leadership. It's more than high time we started holding people in leadership positions accountable to their crimes, rather than blaming the victims for speaking up. This Nigerian syndrome has to stop through our collective efforts, rather than us playing the bystanders with less concerned attitude.

  • It's unfortunate that people can come on social media and condemn a player who gave his all for the national team instead of condemning the administrators who treated him and others love like gabbage. Please carry out a little research about how some other football organizations in other climes treat their players. Look at the way Bobby Charlton was honoured by England and other players that have represented England in the past. Compare same to the way NFF honoured our football heroes like Yekini, Keshi to mention but a few. So when you see a player seemingly acting unpatriotic, investigate and have a balanced perspective on issues. We forget too easily as Nigerians and that is not fair on our heroes past.

  • When a country decides not to take care of her own players when they come to play for their country. Imagine you as a player ,after a tournament your fees or allowance is out on voice mail and after long talk before you even get a penny,at times the players used their hard earned monies to sponsor their trip just to represent the country whereas monies have been released but the idiots in NFF will start hoarding the funds and players will quarrel with them before their allowances are laid talk less of bonuses. This whole shit has been going on ever since and it makes the players not wanting to put up their best during national assignment. If you get injured you are on your own. Vincent was treated badly just like others so if he decides to behave the way he's doing now no body should blame him rather the blame should go to those in the glass house who don't know s thing about futbol MGT

We have better coaches in Nigeria but bcos of engunge the glass house can't appoint good Nigerian coaches but will rather go and spend more on foreign coaches that are not known paying them high amt bcos of the kick back they will get at the detriment of the game in the country. Just imagine Nigeria playing a draw in two of her world up qualifiers with low rated country's like lisotho and the last country they played with. The coach pressrio is just not the person we need for now,he is being owed and he opted for a pay cut yet he's still being owed with the 50k $ monthly, this amt can get us three Nigerian coaches to handle the super eagles at the same time with the 50k $ share amongst them as allowances and they will do a great job. NFF and the glass house needs some rejigging
