‘Depends’ – Pioli shares thoughts on Chukwueze ahead of Milan vs Dortmund clash

Samuel Chukwueze joined AC Milan from Villarreal during the summer transfer window, but has struggled to secure a regular spot in the squad

AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli has voiced his assessment of Samuel Chukwueze’s performances as they prepare to face Borussia Dortmund tonight, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian international, acquired by the Rossoneri for approximately €20 million in the summer transfer window, has struggled to secure a regular spot in Pioli’s squad, often playing second fiddle to Christian Pulisic in his position.

Rafael Leao’s injury absence has granted the pacey Nigerian winger more playing time, resulting in two consecutive starts in clashes against Lecce and Fiorentina.

Ahead of the Dortmund showdown, Pioli expressed contentment with Chukwueze’s recent performances, emphasizing his contribution to the team’s effort to secure a positive result.

“I was happy with his performance on Saturday. He worked a lot for the team, he found himself in the right positions. He also had a difficult start due to an injury. Now in my opinion he’s fine. Maybe a little more inside on the pitch he gets more into the heart of the game, but it depends on how we play and the combinations with Calabria.” Pioli remarked, as quoted by Milan Posts.

AC Milan currently holds the third spot in UEFA Champions League Group F with 5 points, trailing Dortmund by two points, who lead the group with seven points.

Pioli’s side aims for a pivotal victory against Dortmund, with Chukwueze poised to assert himself as a threat to opponents and a key figure in Pioli’s squad.
