Francis Uzoho has come under scrutiny for his performances with the Super Eagles after consistent errors leading to goals for Nigeria.
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho has missed out on the Confederations of African Football annual awards nomination for the goalkeeper of the year section, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 25-year-old Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper is yet to make a single appearance for his club side this season but has been trusted by Jose Peseiro as the Super Eagle’s first choice in goal.
Ahead of the annual CAF awards, the governing body of African Football have released their list of nominees for the upcoming awards, but the Nigerian goalkeeper was absent.
Europa League winner with Sevilla – Yassine Bounou, was nominated after helping Morocco to be the first African nation to make it to the semi-finals of a FIFA World Cup.
Manchester United’s Andre Onana was nominated as well, after winning the Serie A with his former side- Inter Milan, and helping them to the UEFA Champions League final, but lost out to Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning Manchester City.
Egypt’s Mohamed El Shenawy, Senegal’s Edouard Mendy, Algeria’s Oussama Benbot and Mali’s Djigui Diarra were also among the goalkeepers nominated for the prestigious award.
Nigerians home and abroad have urged and encouraged the NFF to do more scouting for the goalkeepers department in the Super Eagles after consistent errors by goalkeepers have kept the team out of important tournaments like the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
