Bundesliga: Classic Harry Kane nets hat trick in Der Klassiker to mar Reus record appearance

Borussia Dortmund were winless in ten games against Bayern Munich before today and looked to build on their performance last time out.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane, was in the spotlight at the Signal Iduna Park tonight after scoring a hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund, Soccernet.ng reports.

Prior to the game, only Dortmund, Bayern, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen were yet to be beaten in the league, and the top two teams in the league locked horns in Dortmund.

In what was Marco Reus’s 400th game in Schwarzgelben colours since rejoining his childhood club in

2012, the attacking midfielder started the game alongside Julian Brandt and Donyell Malen with the intent of three points.

French centre-back, Dayot Upamecano broke the deadlock for the away side inside just four minutes. Leroy Sane’s corner kick met the 25-year-old defender who was left unmarked in the Dortmund box to tap the ball home.

Five minutes later, Harry Kane joined in on the act, with Sane again the provider. Bayern broke away on the counter through Leon Goretzka who played a pass into the path of Sane, who was too quick for ageing Mats Hummels to handle. The German squared the ball into the six-yard box for Kane to score his 13th goal in ten Bundesliga games.

Dortmund struggled to progress into the game as the quality of Thomas Tuchel’s men couldn’t be contained at the Signal Iduna Park, and with just about twenty minutes left to play, Harry Kane sealed all three points for the Bavarians.

A one-two between Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musial freed the Frenchman on the home side’s left flank, and he passed the ball into the path of Kane to tap home the third of the game.

England’s highest goal scorer completed his hat-trick in added time after a slip from Mats Hummels allowed Musiala to play Kane through on goal, and he swept his shot past Gregor Kobel.

For Edin Terzic’s men, this comes as their first defeat of the season in the league, and the eleventh Der Klassiker without a win.
