2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier: Nigeria’s Super Eagles land in Kigali for crucial clash with Zimbabwe’s Warriors

The two teams played out draws in their respective matchday one fixture and will seek their first victory in Butare on Sunday

Nigeria’s Super Eagles touched down in Kigali, Rwanda, early on Saturday to begin preparations for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying showdown against the Warriors of Zimbabwe set for Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Departing from the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo on a chartered flight Friday night, the players and officials reached their East African destination after a three-hour and 30-minute journey.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, the contingent hit the ground running in Kigali, where they then embarked on a two-hour road trip to Butare, home to the Huye Stadium—the battleground for tomorrow’s match.

Later tonight, the Super Eagles will get a taste of the 20,000-capacity Huye Stadium, equipped with an artificial turf. Interestingly, the team has collectively shrugged off concerns about the playing surface, focusing solely on clinching the maximum three points.

Following a 1-1 draw against Lesotho’s Crocodiles in Uyo on Thursday, coach Jose Peseiro affirmed a resilient mentality for the remaining nine matches in the qualification series, emphasising victory as the only acceptable outcome.

The anticipated clash against the Warriors is scheduled to kick off at 1 pm Nigeria time on Sunday.
