We can face any country- Super Eagles defender Omeruo unfazed ahead of AFCON draw

The draw for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations takes place on Thursday, and Omeruo is open to facing anybody

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has stated that the team is ready to face any opponent ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations draws in Ivory Coast, Soccernet reports.

The Super Eagles will know their opponent for the 2023 AFCON on Thursday in the draws that will be held in Cameroon.

Nigeria are in pot two and could face any of the top teams in Africa. There is also the possibility of facing archrivals South Africa, who are in pot three of the draws.

However, Nigeria defender, Omeruo, is not disturbed by the possibility of being grouped with any country. He says the team can face any country because of their winning mentality.

“I think our group matters because in football, you hope to be in an easy group so you can find your way,” Omeruo said in the pre-match conference for the friendly encounter against Saudi Arabia.

“But like I said, we have a winning mentality, so it doesn’t matter who we face. I’m excited to know our opponents at the end of the day.”

Since Nigeria started playing at the AFCON, they have never failed to qualify from the group stage. It would be a huge disappointment if they don’t qualify next year.
