UCL Roundup: Olayinka no-show, Yusuf the bright spot as PSG, Porto, Leipzig steal Super Eagles stars’ joy

Several Nigerian players had few reasons to smile following the results of the UEFA Champions League matches played on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Alhassan Yusuf scored for Royal Antwerp in their 1-4 home defeat to Porto in Group H.

Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke, and young forward George Ilenikhena also played, with both coming on in the 77th minute.

Yusuf broke the deadlock at the Bosuil Stadion to give Antwerp the lead at halftime before Porto opened the floodgates after the break.

The Nigerian midfielder’s goal in the 37th minute marked his first-ever UEFA Champions League goal and his first goal for the Belgian club this season.

Despite their efforts, Antwerp could not secure the win, as FC Porto, led by Evanilson’s hat-trick and Stephen Eustaquio’s goal, clinched victory.

Antwerp currently sit at the bottom of the group with no points, while Porto hold the second spot with six points.

In Group F, AC Milan, missing Chukwueze due to injury, faced a 3-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, with goals from Kylian Mbappe, Kolo Muani, and Lee Yong securing a convincing win for Luiz Enrique’s team.

Milan are struggling in the UEFA Champions League this season, sitting at the bottom of the group with just two points after three games. PSG currently leads the group with six points from three matches.

In Group G, there was no joy for Peter Olayinka and FK Crvena Zvezda as they fell to a 3-1 defeat away to RB Leipzig.

Olayinka was replaced at halftime with Leipzig already one-nil up, and he watched from the bench as goals from Simons and Olmo sandwiched Stamenic’s consolation strike for the visitors.

Lukas Okechukwu Nmecha scored the only goal that gave Borussia Dortmund a hard-fought 0-1 away win at Newcastle United.

Among other results on Wednesday, October 25, Manchester City won 3-1 away against Young Boys, Barcelona secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, and Red Star Belgrade lost 3-1 to Leipzig in Germany.

Additionally, Celtic and Atletico Madrid played a 2-2 draw, and Feyenoord defeated Lazio 3-1.
