Nigerians abroad: Adams boost Super Eagles chance with brilliant brace; Azango, Adeola, Arokodare on target

Soccernet.ng highlights some eye-catching displays from Nigerian footballers outside the country’s shores on Sunday, October 30, 2023.

In the Belarussian Premier League, Raymond Adeola was among the goals as Gomel handed a 0-2 defeat to Belshina away from home.

In the Egyptian Premier League, Godwin Okwara got the only goal of the encounter that handed a 1-0 win to El Geish over Ceramica Cleopatra.

In the Belgian Pro League, Club Brugge managed a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Antwerp, with George Ilenikhena securing a consolation goal for the visitors in a fiercely contested midfield battle between Raphael Onyedika and Alhassan Yusuf.

Tolu Arokodare opened the scoring for Genk in the second half to help the Smurfs cruise to a convincing 0-3 win at Kortrijk.

Moving to England, despite some errors against Tottenham Hotspur, Calvin Bassey maintained his position in central defence for Fulham as they settled for a 1-1 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi played just behind Raul Jimenez, contributing to Everton’s draw against Brighton, with João Palhinha’s second-half strike nullifying Evan Ferguson’s early goal.

Taiwo Awoniyi returned to action for Nottingham Forest after recovering from injury but could not prevent a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, with Ola Aina’s presence at left-back unable to stem Forest’s six-game winless streak in the Premier League.

In Ligue 1, Akor Adams netted a brace to propel Montpellier to a convincing 3-0 victory over Toulouse.

Adams, who is convinced he can get invited for the Super Eagles should he keep scoring, has taken his tally to an impressive seven goals in nine league games.

Over to the German Bundesliga, where Victor Boniface played a crucial role in Bayer Leverkusen’s eighth win of the season, securing a hard-fought 2-1 triumph against Freiburg.

Serie A saw Isaac Success contribute his quota as Udinese settled for a 1-1 draw at Monza, while Maduka Okoye remained on the bench as an unused substitute.

In Slovakia’s Super Liga, Philip Azango’s exceptional performance steered Spartak Trnava to a thrilling 2-3 triumph over Trenčín, with Azango’s double and an assist lifting his side to their sixth victory in 12 games.

La Liga featured Umar Sadiq’s appearance for Real Sociedad, but Rayo Vallecano’s late equalizer resulted in a 2-2 draw.

In Sweden’s Allsvenskan, Jonathan Rasheed’s six saves and a crucial clearance helped IFK Varnamo secure a thrilling 1-3 away win against Kalmar FF.

In the Ettan, Godwin Aguda broke the deadlock for Falkenberg as they powered to a 3-1 victory against Eskilsminne.

Turkey’s Super Lig witnessed Paul Onuachu’s goal drought continue as Trabzonspor settled for a draw at Fatih Karagümrük. At the same time, Emmanuel Dennis failed to find the back of the net in Istanbul Basaksehir’s 1-0 defeat at Antalyaspor.

On the brighter side, Bright Osayi-Samuel’s impactful play contributed to Fenerbahce’s commanding 0-5 victory against Pendikspor, with Osayi-Samuel instrumental in forcing the own goal that kick-started Fener’s dominance.

  • I hope Jonathan Rasheed would be given chance in SE to showcase his talent but the body language of Jose Peseiro seems to be negative towards him.
    Time will tell.
