The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been seeded in the same Group with the tournament’s host, Cote d’Ivoire
Former Chelsea star, Mikel Obi, has shared his thoughts on the Africa Cup of Nations draw, asserting that the Super Eagles of Nigeria remain the favorites, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn into the same group as the tournament host, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.
Despite the historical rivalry between Nigeria and Ivory Coast, which may present challenges in advancing to the next round, the former Stoke City midfielder firmly believes that Nigeria is the favorite.
During a ceremony attended by special guests like Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba, music legend Akon, Sadio Mane, and others, the 2013 AFCON champions learned their fate. However, Mikel expressed his support for Nigeria’s performance at the tournament.
At the tournament held in Abidjan, Akon inquired about Nigeria’s chances in the group, and Mikel stated that he fully supports Nigeria to perform well.
“Moving on to this tournament, we are always the favorite; there are many tough teams here, but, yeah, Nigeria is always [the favorite],” he said.
