KAA Gent’s Torunarigha celebrates debut for Super Eagles after Mozambique victory

With three goals to two, the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Mambas of Mozambique to get ready for their next World Cup qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations competition

KAA Gent’s Jordan Torunarigha has expressed his delight following his maiden appearance for the Super Eagles in their 3-2 friendly victory against the Mambas of Mozambique, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old defender, who is the son of former footballer Ojokojo Torunarigha and the brother of current footballer Junior Torunarigha, made the switch to represent Nigeria earlier in 2023.

His journey to the national team was significant, considering he received his first call-up to play against São Tomé and Príncipe, but didn’t feature in Nigeria’s 6-0 victory over the Central African side.

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro explained the decision not to play Torunarigha against São Tomé and Príncipe, saying, “It’s my decision not to play him against São Tomé and Príncipe, but he will get his chance very soon,” in Uyo.

Finally, Torunarigha’s maiden appearance for the three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions occurred during the friendly match against Mozambique.

He started the game and played for the majority of the match, with Calvin Bassey replacing him 15 minutes from the end.

To commemorate his debut, the center-back posted on his Instagram page, expressing his feelings about finally making his Super Eagles debut and suggesting that this is just the beginning of his international journey.

“Really proud and happy about my debut for the Super Eagles! Just the beginning!” the Gent defender shared on social media.

It’s worth noting that Torunarigha previously represented Germany at the youth level before making the switch to represent Nigeria.
