Leicester City have enjoyed a fine start to life under new Italian manager, Enzo Maresca and are currently second in the Championships.
Leicester City boss, Enzo Maresca, has talked down discussions of a promotion to the English Premier League, despite their fine form in the Championships, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Foxes have enjoyed a brilliant start to life under the Italian manager, winning eight out of nine games, securing twenty-four points and conceding just six goals.
The coach has also placed Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi in a slightly different role, as the anchor-man no longer sits deep to break play, but rather moves in between channels to create chances.
Kelechi Iheanacho has been kept to the second fiddle role as well, with Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka preferred up front, and despite that, Seniorman has two goals to his name already this term.
Speaking ahead of his team’s game against Preston North End tonight, Maresca cooled talks over Leicester’s form leading to promotion back to the Premier League.
“It’s early days. It’s been two or three months as we speak. I always try to be open and honest. Seven points in October is nothing, it’s three games, but it’s much better to have seven points more than seven points less, for sure,” the 43-year-old told the club’s official website.
Leicester are currently second in the Championship table, only a point behind Ipswich town, but Maresca’s men have a game in hand, but the Italian is completely blaise about promotion
“After nine games, it’s difficult to say only because we’re now first in the league that we’re going to be promoted, but we cannot manage different people, we cannot control them. Everyone is free to say what they think,” He added.
The ex-parma coach wants consistency and total commitment to achieve their eventual goal and wants to instil in his players that the results matter, so they don’t get carried away.
“Since day one, until today, they are giving 100 per cent in this aspect to be open-minded and learn. We are trying to teach them the idea and they are also enjoying it because in the end the result helps a lot.”
The Foxes can go top of the Sky Bet Championships with just a draw tonight, but a home advantage should propel them towards all three points.
