The Argentine striker has been Osimhen’s major competitor in the Serie A for the past two seasons, but he has huge respect for him
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has showered praises on Argentina forward Lautaro Martinez despite their battle for the Serie A top scorer award, Soccernet reports.
Osimhen has been a nemesis to defences for the last two seasons. Last season, the Nigerian striker helped Napoli to their first Scudetto since 1990 after registering 26 goals and five assists in 32 appearances.
The 24-year-old marksman eventually won the Serie A top scorer award(Capocannoniere), becoming the first African to do so.
However, Osimhen was not the only striker banging in goals in Italy. Inter Milan talisman Lautaro Martinez gave him a big push, a, hande eventually ended the season with 21 goals to help his side finish third in the Italian top-flight.
Despite the rivalry between both players, Osimhen still has deep respect for Martinez.
“Martinez is a great leader for his team and a beautiful goal scorer,” said in a Twitch interview
“I remember we had a very big one towards the end of last season, where we’re chasing for the Capocannoniere (top scorer).”
“We also push each other in trying to get the highest goal scorer. So for me, I think he’s also a top guy. he is the leader of his team and he’s been doing well for them.
“I really don’t know how to put in words trying to describe this kind of amazing player. This type of player in Serie A is great for marketing.
“I really like him a lot, and he has great abilities.”
Both players are already at it again this season. Osimhen has six goals in Serie A while Martinez leads with 11 goals.
Osimhen is currently sidelined because of an injury, but he would look to bounce back stronger and retain his highest goalscorer title.
