Goal-hungry Umar Sadiq: Can Super Eagles star end 10-game drought vs Vallecano?

Nigerian forward, Umar Sadiq is facing a challenging season with Real Sociedad since his return from a long injury spell, Soccernet.ng reports.

His return to the pitch following a long spell on the sidelines due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury hasn’t been as prolific as he might have hoped.

Sadiq last found the back of the net on September 3, 2022, in a match against Atlético Madrid, and since then, he’s been unable to break his goal drought, which now spans over ten games.

This goalless streak is undoubtedly frustrating for both the Nigerian international and Real Sociedad fans, who are patiently waiting to see the value of their money.

After an impressive stint with Union Deportiva Almeria, tallying 40 goals in 79 appearances, the 26-year-old signed for Sociedad in the 2022, summer window.

Meanwhile, after only featuring and scoring in a few games, he picked up a knock that left him on the sideline for a long period of time.

However, it’s important to consider the mental toll such a run can have on a player. Scoring goals is a striker’s primary duty, and their inability to do so can affect their confidence.

The fact that he’s yet to start a game this season shows that the coach might have concerns about his form or fitness.

While he’s made nine league appearances, contributing only one assist is far from the impact one would expect from a player of his caliber.

Can goal-hungry Sadiq end 10-game drought?

However, it’s important to remember that recovery from a serious injury can take time. Sadiq’s return to action was a significant milestone in his career, and he may still be working on regaining his peak form.

With perseverance, determination, and the support of his team, there’s hope that he can overcome this challenging period and get back to finding the back of the net.

Real Sociedad will be looking to Sadiq to end his goal drought against Rayo Vallecano, and fans will be hoping for a resurgence from this talented striker.

The journey back to peak performance can be arduous, but with the right mindset and support, there’s potential for a successful turnaround in his season.
