“Eddie gets goals” – Alex Iwobi backs Nketiah to make Arsenal’s striking spot his own following Jesus injury

Alex Iwobi left Arsenal to join the Toffees in 2019 after the Europa League final, before moving to Fulham on deadline day last summer.

Super Eagles midfielder, Alexander Chuka Iwobi, has backed Arsenal striker, Eddie Nketiah to make the best of Gabriel Jesus’s injury absence, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nketiah scored a hat-trick last weekend in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Sheffield United, filling in for injured Gabriel Jesus who is set to miss the next few weeks of football action after picking up a muscle injury.

Iwobi, who played with Nketiah from the famous Hale End academy to the first team, in an old interview in 2017, backed the Ghanaian to be one of the players that would go all the way to the top from the academy.

“Eddie Nketiah is someone who just finds the goal. I don’t know how, but some people have that instinct just to get the ball and put it in the net with probably just one chance in the game. He’s somebody who’s able to find the goal, not just for Arsenal but for England as well,” Iwobi said in quotes revealed by Just Arsenal.

Nketiah, 24, recently made his debut for the Three Lions of England in their 1-0 win over Australia and drew praises from his ex-teammate again for his growth so far.

“Eddie is someone who believes in himself from when he was young, and with him, goals are guaranteed. It’s always going to be hard to be the main striker for Arsenal,” Iwobi told The Beautiful Game Podcast.

“They have Gabriel Jesus and before that, many great strikers, and he’s had to be patient. He’s had to go on loan, but he still gets goals, and he doesn’t stop working, and that’s something I think Arteta appreciates,” the 27-year-old added.

Iwobi though, moved away from The Emirates Stadium in 2019 to join Everton, before eventually moving to Fulham in August.
