‘Was there any difference between Theo Bair this afternoon and Cyriel Dessers’ – Motherwell legend slams Rangers striker

Cyriel Dessers has had a slow start to his career for Rangers, registering 3 goals and 1 assist in all competitions

Motherwell legend Stephen Craigan has not been impressed with Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers’ performance for Rangers despite scoring the winning goal that helped his team claim a 1-0 victory over Motherwell at the Ibrox Stadium on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old joined the 55-time Scottish champions this summer with high expectations after two good years for Feyernood and Cremonese.

But the Nigerian International has failed to hit the ground running at the Ibrox Stadium, going blank in his first five games of the Premiership.

Dessers has come under huge criticism from fans and pundits for his uninspiring start to his career at the Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers boss, Michael Beale had to drop him from their league trip to St Johnstone after the International break and was also given only 3 minutes in their Europa League 1-0 victory over Real Betis on Thursday.

He was recalled to the starting lineup yesterday because another summer arrival Danilo was not fit to take part in the game.

However, Dessers rewarded by scoring the only goal of the game in the 24th minute to help Rangers stay close to the defending champion and fiercest rivals Celtic at the top of the league table.

Speaking after the game, Craigan believes that Dessers has not lived up to expectations, and has not done anything spectacular far to rate him higher than Canadian striker Theo Bair, who was also recruited in the summer transfer window by Motherwell, but has struggled to make any difference so far for the club.

He said: They can’t go out and get someone who will guarantee them 20 goals. Rangers can’t bring in a center-forward who is going to guarantee them 20 goals. I mean, was there any difference between Theo Bair this afternoon and Cyriel Dessers, barring the goal? Craigan was quoted as saying in Daily Record

That’s the kind of budget and if Rangers can’t get it when they are spending £3m, Motherwell can’t get it when they are taking someone on a free from St Johnstone.

Dessers will be hoping to make another positive impact for Rangers when they host Livingston at the Ibrox Stadium on Wednesday in the quarterfinal of the Scottish Cup.

The 28-year-old has registered 3 goals and 1 assist in all competitions for the 55-time Scottish champions since his summer move to the club.
