Vincent Enyeama’s UCL scoring feat remembered as Lazio’s Ivan Provedel scores against Atletico Madrid

Lazio’s Ivan Provedel levelled the scoreline for the Serie A side in the 94th minute of the UEFA Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid

Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel has joined an exclusive club of goalkeepers who have scored in the UEFA Champions League, Soccernet.ng reports.

A momentous occasion in Tuesday night’s match against Atlético Madrid saw Provedel made his UCL debut a memorable one, heading in a stoppage-time equalizer that secured a 1-1 draw for Lazio.

The Italian shot-stopper’s remarkable goal occurred in the dying moments of the game when he ventured up field for a last-ditch corner.

He capitalized on a cross from Luis Alberto, displaying impressive skill to direct the ball into the net with one of the final touches of the match.

This achievement draws parallels with former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, who scored for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Champions League thirteen years ago.

Enyeama notably converted a penalty during the 2010/11 season against Lyon for Hapoel Tel Aviv and also scored in the UCL qualifying playoffs for his club against Red Bull Salzburg that same season, ending with two European goals to his name.

Provedel’s goal, however, stands out as it was scored from open play, making him just the second goalkeeper in Champions League history to achieve this feat without the aid of a penalty.

This historic moment marks the first time in 13 years since Enyeama accomplished it for Hapoel Tel Aviv. The last goalkeeper to score from open play in the UCL was Sinan Bolat, who also netted a late equalizer in the 95th minute for Standard Liege during the 2009/10 season.
