Transfer: Catalan giants Barcelona pick interest in revived Leicester City star

A brilliant start to the season sees Leicester City at the Championship table, with Wilfred Ndidi being a solid part.

Super Eagles defensive midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has played an integral part in Leicester’s fine form this season, capturing the attention of top European clubs, including Barcelona, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Culers have no squad depth in the defensive midfielder position, following Frenkie De Jong’s ankle injury, and the club hierarchy have identified Ndidi as a player who can fill the void in the centre of the park.

Other midfield options for La Blaugrana include Pedri, Gavi, and Ilkay Gundogan, but these players do not fit the profile of Xavi’s first-phase midfielder, leaving them no option but to look elsewhere.

Spanish outlet, Sport Español, revealed that the 27-time La Liga winners are keen to have Wilfred Ndidi as a squad player as they will play a lot of games and have tired legs as the season wears out.

The report also revealed that other top clubs like Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus are interested in securing the services of the 52-game capped Super Eagle.

Ndidi has established himself as a force under the tutelage of Enzo Maresca. The 43-year-old coach is leading The Foxes’ charge for a return to the English top flight and has made the Nigerian a gem in midfield.

The Nigerian has found the back of the twice this season and set up another goal from defensive midfield.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest were also linked with a deadline-day move for the Leicester midfielder during the last transfer window, but the one-time Premier League winners were not willing to sell.

The Foxes might stall on any negotiations in the winter transfer window, as Ndidi’s exit might alter the balance in their midfield.
