Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been nominated for August’s Premier League Player of the Month award, Soccernet.ng reports.
Awoniyi set the Premier League alight this August, making a strong case for the Player of the Month award with his impressive performances.
The 26-year-old forward netted three times in as many Premier League appearances, capping off his stellar month with an assist in Forest’s 1-0 triumph over Chelsea this past Saturday.
Awoniyi’s impactful journey this season commenced with a bang as he emerged from the bench to snatch a late goal against Arsenal.
The former Union Berlin ace then continued his scoring spree by finding the net just three minutes into Forest’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Awoniyi carried his fine form into the clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford, where he struck early in a dramatic contest.
For the award, Awoniyi will battle with Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison, Manchester City midfielder Rodri, Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Kaoru Mitoma and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Awoniyi has received a well-deserved call-up to the Super Eagles squad for Nigeria’s final Afcon qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principe.
Alongside 22 other international teammates, he has already landed in Uyo, where the crucial match is set to unfold on Sunday afternoon.
Nigeria have already secured their place in the continental championship, set to kick off in Ivory Coast in January.
