Paul Onuachu joined Turkish side Trabzonspor this week on a season-long loan after an unsuccessful six months with Southampton
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is a happy man once again after netting a goal for his new club Trabzonspor in a 3-0 win over rivals Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig game played at the Papara Park on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 29-year-old made the switch from Championship side Southampton to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan this week after an unsuccessful 6 months in England.
He was handed his first start immediately by head coach Nenad Bjelica and the Nigerian forward didn’t disappoint with his first goal for the club just before the half-hour mark.
Greek midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas doubled the lead for the home side with four minutes remaining in the first half.
Bosnia and Herzegovina midfielder Edin Visca made it 3-0 just after the hour mark to make it a comfortable victory for the Black Sea Storm.
However, Onuachu was replaced at halftime by Turkish forward Enis Destan, and there is no clarification yet on whether he suffered an injury in the first half of the encounter.
The victory has moved Trabzonspor to the fifth position in the league table with 9 points after five matches.
Onuachu had a prolific time in Belgium with KRC Genk, registering 85 goals in 134 appearances in four years before his move to Southampton in January.
At St Mary’s Stadium, he failed to score a goal in 11 league appearances before the club suffered relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.
He will be targeting a return to Jose Pesiro’s Super Eagles squad for next month’s friendly game against Saudi Arabia, having missed out on the team that beat Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 a week ago.
