‘It’s going well, but I’ll keep going’ – Ndidi on his new midfield role for Leicester City

Wilfred Ndidi has started the new season in good form, registering 3 goals and 1 assist in all competitions for Leicester City

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has opened up on his new midfield role at Leicester City under Italian manager Enzo Maresca, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old was originally a central midfielder in the early days of his career before he was converted to a defensive midfielder at Belgian club Racing Genk, from where he joined Leicester City in 2017.

He operated in his converted defensive position for Leicester City under their previous managers during their days in the Premier League.

However, Ndidi has been handed a different role under a new manager Enzo Maresca, who joined the club this summer.

The Nigerian International has been deployed in a more advanced position this season and he has adapted quickly to his new position having registered 3 goals and 1 assist from his 10 appearances in all competitions.

Ndidi was instrumental in Leicester’s last match in the Championship against Bristol City on Saturday as it was his movement that forced Kal Naismith into bringing him down in the box which brought a penalty converted by Jamie Vardy that resulted in their 1-0 victory.

The former Genk midfielder admitted that he’s adapting to his new role under the guidance of the Italian manager.

He said: Kudos to the manager because he’s been trying to help me understand the role. He’s trying to help me, as revealed on Leicester City’s website

The guys who naturally play that role are helping me too. It’s a process. It’s going well, but I will keep going. It’s very interesting because I try to get in the box more often. I’ve always had it but it’s taken Enzo to make me know I’ve actually got it. He’s trying to push me.

Ndidi has featured in all of Leicester City’s matches played so far this season, helping the Foxes to win seven of their eight Championship games which has placed them on top of the table.
