The Super Eagles striker arrived at Rangers in the summer, but he has failed to impress much
Rangers coach Michael Beale has reaffirmed his confidence in a Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers despite his struggles, Soccernet reports.
Dessers joined Rangers from Cremonese in the summer in a deal worth €5million, but he has failed to hit the ground running. The 28-year-old striker has registered three goals and three assists in 12 appearances for the Gers since he joined.
His performances have not exactly impressed Rangers fans, with some of the jeering at him on few occasions. However, coach Beale has his back. He believes Dessers has been unlucky on a few occasions and would eventually hit form.
“Cyriel would like to do better, that’s a fact. I don’t think he’s shown his full level yet. He has got three goals and a couple of assists,” Beale said per Football Scotland.
“I think he’s been really unlucky. If he gets the assist against Celtic and adds that assist to his one against PSV then I think people will see him not only as a goalscorer.
“I think in moments he has shown that but of course he’s looking for a rhythm and a consistency. He’s been out of the team recently so it’s an opportunity for him if he plays to come in and stake a claim for sure.”
Rangers play Aberdeen on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership, and Dessers would likely lead the line due to injuries to Kemar Roofe and Danilo. Aberdeen have always been a difficult nut to crack for the Gers, and if Dessers can deliver the goods, he will win some Rangers fans over.
