EPL: Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina face tough challenge as Manchester City prevails against Nottingham Forest

Steve Coopers men were handed their third defeat in the English Premier League when they lost 2-nil to Manchester City

Two Super Eagles stars, Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, featured for Nottingham Forest in a challenging match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

After securing a point in a 1-1 draw against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley last weekend, Forest faced a tougher opponent in the Cityzens.

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden made early contributions to secure victory for Pep Guardiola’s team. Foden opened the scoring in the seventh minute after receiving a beautiful pass from Kyle Walker, promptly firing it past Matt Turner.

Seven minutes later, Haaland extended the lead for the home side. He capitalized on a clever lofted pass by Matheus Nunes, heading the ball into the roof of the net from close range to make it 2-nil.

Awoniyi showed promise for the visitors but faced strong resistance from Manchester City’s solid defense. One close attempt saw Anthony Elanga trying to find Awoniyi with a pass, but he put too much on it, resulting in a missed opportunity for the away team.

In the 76th minute, Awoniyi and Aina were replaced by Chris Wood and Divock Origi, marking the end of their involvement in the game.

Nottingham Forest will face Brentford FC at the City Ground on October 1st, with Awoniyi eager to contribute to his team’s victory with his goal-scoring ability.
