Davido celebrates Osimhen and Oshoala’s Balon d’Or nominations

The two Nigerian superstars made history as they got nominated for one of the most prestigious awards in world football

Nigeria music star Davido has celebrated Nigerian footballers Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala for their 2023 Balon d’Or nominations, Soccernet reports.

For the first time since 1999, a male Nigerian footballer was nominated for the Balon d’Or. Also, it was the first time a male and a female Nigerian player would be nominated for football’s top prize.

Osimhen and Oshoala had great campaigns with their clubs last season. Osimhen pushed Napoli to Serie A glory, scoring 26 goals in the process. He also became the first African player to win the Capocannoniere.

Meanwhile, Oshoala was also brilliant for Barcelona Femini last season. She registered 26 goals and six assists in 37 appearances in the run-up to their Laliga and Champions League triumph.

Following their nominations, Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido took to his X page to celebrate the two footballers.

He posted pictures of Osimhen and Oshoala, and used the picture of a Nigerian flag as the caption.

As it stands, the frontrunners for the male award are Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi, while Aitana Bonmati, Sam Kerr, and Salma Paralluelo are the top contenders for the female award.

The award ceremony will go down on the 30th of October in France.
