Boniface joins Son, Barcelona’s Kounde and other standout players in Europe team of week

Victor Boniface has taken the Bundesliga by storm after netting conservative braces for Bayer 04 Leverkusen to make it four goals in three games

Nigeria’s Victor Boniface has been named among the top performers in the top 5 European leagues for the last round of games before the International break, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old continued his impressive start to his career in Germany with another brace over the weekend, taking his tally to a commendable four goals in three games, while also assisting another two to help Bayer 04 Leverkusen to a perfect three Bundesliga wins from the three games.

Football statistics website, Whoscored.com, has named the Nigerian forward in the team of the week in Europe’s top 5 leagues. He was listed in the forward line alongside other standout players over the weekend, such as Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-min Son and Brighton teenager Evan Ferguson.

In the 3-4-3 formation, Boniface stood in the number 9 role and was flanked by two forwards, who were in scintillating form in the Premier League over the weekend.

Heung-min Son scored a remarkable three goals in Tottenham’s 5-2 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor, while Ferguson’s hat-trick powered Brighton and Hove Albion to a 3-1 win against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United at the Amex Stadium.

Boniface was awarded a rating of 9.68 out of 10, the second in the team and only bettered by Evan Ferguson’s 9.96.

The forward’s impressive tally of four goals and two assists has helped Die Welkserf gather 9 points from 3 games alongside defending champions Bayern Munich, with Leverkusen ahead on the league table with a better goal difference.

As a reward for his outstanding performances in the early weeks of the Bundesliga season, he has been called up for the first time to the national side, and he’s in head coach Jose Peseiro’s Super Eagles of Nigeria squad for their dead rubber Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe.

After his blistering start for Leverkusen, Boniface will now aim to get his maiden goal for his country at the first attempt against 186 FIFA-ranked São Tomé and Príncipe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
