Gift Orban has failed to score in his last 5 games for Gent, after starting the season impressively with six goals in six games in all competitions
KAA Gent have confirmed Gift Orban might be given a two-match suspension following the red card he received in Gent’s 2-1 victory over Eupen in a league match on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Orban was given a straight card in the closing minutes of the first half of the game for shoving Rune Paeshuyse in the neck, causing the Eupen defender to collapse on the turf.
The dismissal of the Nigerian international was confirmed after a review of the video assistant referee.
The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office which is charged with making decisions on players’ misconduct has ruled that the incident that saw Orban sent off involved physical misconduct and brutal push with high intensity, resulting in a two-match suspension and a fine of 1,500 Euros.
However, due to it being his first red card in 57 professional games, he will be allowed to serve only a match suspension now while the other will be postponed, as revealed on Gent’s website
Gent are expected to respond to the verdict no later than Tuesday.
If the suspension stands, it would rule him out of Gent’s next league match against Antwerp on Wednesday.
Orban has been struggling in recent weeks with form and injuries after starting the season impressively with 6 goals from 6 games but has failed to score in his last 5 games for Gent.
Injury also kept him out of the Super Eagles’ 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in the last International break, in what would have been his maiden cap for Nigeria.
