Beginning of the end? Victor Osimhen removes Napoli photos from Instagram amid social media controversy

The Super Eagles striker has never hidden his affection for all things Napoli, but it seems the club has crossed a line of no return

Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has erased all Napoli-related images from his Instagram account, signaling his discontent with the club, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen’s action comes on the heels of Napoli’s recent social media misstep, where they poked fun at the Super Eagles forward for his missed penalty against Bologna.

Despite leading Napoli to their first Scudetto title in more than three decades, Osimhen had been under scrutiny for his goalless showing over the past month.

The 24-year-old’s streak of bad luck continued when he failed to convert a penalty in a disappointing 0-0 draw against Bologna over the weekend.

Matters degenerated further when Osimhen reacted with anger and was seen shouting at Napoli head coach Rudi Garcia after he was replaced late in the encounter.

Initially, Osimhen faced potential fines for his outburst after being substituted during the match. However, he managed to smoothen things over by apologizing to his manager, Rudi Garcia.

However, a new source of contention has emerged.

Osimhen is discontent with Napoli after the club’s official TikTok account shared a video ridiculing his penalty miss against Bologna.

His agent, Roberto Calenda has already hinted that the Nigerian forward is even considering legal action against Napoli due to this incident.

To underscore his displeasure with Napoli’s handling of the situation, Osimhen has chosen to remove all images related to his time at the club from his Instagram profile.

Instead, he has redirected his focus towards pictures featuring his national team, the Super Eagles.

With Osimhen’s relationship with Napoli at an all-time low, the situation has sparked speculation, especially since he has not signed a new contract with the club, despite ongoing talks since the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
