Super Eagles shot-stopper completes transfer to Serie A sde Udinese

The Nigerian goalkeeper has struggled to get minutes since he moved to England last year, and he has left to get more minutes

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has completed a permanent transfer to Italian Serie A club Udinese, Soccernet reports.

Okoye left Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam last summer after two impressive seasons with the club that saw him emerge as the best player in once.

He then joined English club Watford in a deal that was supposed to see him become the first-choice goalkeeper following the departure of Ben Foster.

However, the 23-year-old goalkeeper failed to impress and was relegated to being a bench warmer.

Okoye had just two appearances for Watford in the FA Cup and the League Cup throughout last season. However, He did not play a single minute in the English Championship.

Following his lack of game time, there have been talks that the Germany-born goalkeeper would leave the Hornets.

Serie A side Udinese have now announced that Okoye has joined them in a four-year deal. The Super Eagles star is valued at around €2million per transfermarket, but the value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Watford and Udinese have seen many played switch sides in recent years- especially Nigerians. William Troost-Ekong and Isaac Success have played for Udinese and Watford, and the transfers are always seamless because the Pozzo family owns them.

Despite switching teams, Okoye is still not sure of a starting shirt. At Udinese, he would have to convince coach Andrea Sottil that he is better than Marco Silvestri, who has been the first choice for the last two seasons.
