Osimhen hits new landmark as Napoli down Sassuolo

Osimhen had a great start to the season, and he just seems inevitable at the moment

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored his 100th goal for Napoli in their 2-0 victory over Sassuolo at the Diego Maradona Stadium, Soccernet reports.

Osimhen has proven to be an important player for Napoli in the last two seasons. He was key in the run-up to their Scudetto triumph last season, scoring 26 goals in 31 Serie A appearances for the Partenopeans.

This season, the 24-year-old striker has started with the same precision. He began the season in style, scoring twice in their league opener against newly-promoted Frosinone. And against Sassuolo this weekend, the top Nigerian marksman could not be stopped.

Osimhen scored from the penalty spot in the 16th minute after Matteo Politano was fouled in the box. The Nigerian superstar had another opportunity to score from the spot in the 60th minute, but he left it for Giacomo Raspadori, who missed.

Nonetheless, Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored the second goal for Napoli in the 64th minute to give Napoli a cushion.

Despite his goal, Osimhen was not at his lethal best. He registered eight attempts on goal, but he failed to score.

The Nigerian hitman saw all 90 minutes of action, but he could not add to his tally as it ended 2-0 at the Diego Maradona.
