Gift Orban: Tottenham trigger further step in signing Nigerian striker as Harry Kane’s replacement

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for Gent striker Gift Orban after an impressive season that saw him register 20 goals in 22 appearances last season.

Tottenham are reportedly edging closer to completing a deal for Gent striker Gift Orban before the end of the summer transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked as a replacement for the club’s record goalscorer Harry Kane, who departed the club in a £86m move to Bayern Munich last week.

A few days ago, transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, dropped an update confirming Spurs’ interest in signing the Nigerian but also revealed that no bid has been tabled yet by the North London club.

The Nigeria International has scored 26 goals from 28 appearances since he the Jupiler Pro League side from Stabeak in January. This has seen him attract interest from several clubs, Ange Postecoglou’s side included.

Speaking to Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Jones claims that Orban is tempted by the offer that Tottenham have proposed to him from a contract point of view. And all that remains now is for the two clubs to reach an agreement on the transfer fee.

To further the talk of Orban moving to north London, Gent boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck has admitted that economic considerations could compel his club to sell their prized assets this summer.

And Jones has added: I expected progress to be made yesterday on that for Tottenham, but I’m not sure it was. That doesn’t look brilliant, but they were first on the scene, and they are the most interested.

He is convinced of the personal package they have put in front of him, so that is going to be fine, it’s just about agreeing a deal with Gent, so let’s see what happens there.

The fact that Orban has agreed to personal terms with Tottenham is a major step forward and a reported fee of around £30m should not be a hindrance, given the money they made from Kane sale.

Orban continued his goal-scoring form with a goal in Gent’s 2-2 draw against Saint Truiden in the Belgian League on Sunday Afternoon.

  • it's a complete joke how long it takes Levy to strike a deal.
just get who we need in, and who you don't want out, then Postecoglou can get on with his job and the fans can help. it's Levy as usual that's holding everything up.
Let's hope Levy does the one deal we all want, and that's to sell the club.
