First lady of Nigeria host Waldrum’s Super Falcons after impressive outing at World Cup

The Super Falcons of Nigeria scaled through Group B unbeaten at the 2023 Women’s World Cup before losing to the Lionesses of England on penalties in the Round of 16 

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, hosted some members of the Super Falcons following their return from the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Soccernet.ng reports.

The squad led by American tactician Randy Waldrum surpassed the expectations of Nigerian football fans after they made it to the round of 16 of the tournament.

Firstly, they navigated their way through a highly competitive group, which included Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland, before they forced European champions, England, all the way to penalties in the Round of 16.

In a post shared on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Twitter handle, the First Lady hosted the players in the State House in Abuja on Monday.

The players who were received are captain Onome Ebi, midfielder Christy Ucheibe and goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi. Also present were Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary of NFF, Mohammed Sanusi, and also some members of the team backroom’s staff.

In the earlier event on Sunday, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke held a reception for two indigenes of the state Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran.

The Super Falcons will now turn their attention toward securing a place in next year’s football event of the Olympics in Paris.
