The Father of Super Falcons striker, Alhaji Oshoala, has clarified on the comments about his daughter’s celebration against Australia
Father of Super Falcons and Barcelona Femení striker, Asisat Oshoala has responded to his daughter’s claim that he wasn’t happy with her celebration after the striker scored the third goal against Australia, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Falcons striker benefitted from a miscommunication between the Australian goalkeeper and her centre-back and pounced home to score the third goal for Nigeria, and after, went wild with her celebrations, taking her shirt off, showing her delight and passion and what it meant to be on the scoresheet again for the Super Falcons.
After the game, Asisat posted her pictures on her Instagram page, mentioning how she was sure her dad wouldn’t be happy with her celebration, but then life is about moments.
Her Father, Alhaji Oshoala, however, has gone on to clarify the situation revealing to the media that the celebration was as a result of her outpouring her emotions.
“It was an outpouring of emotions and it was not intentional. I am proud of my daughter,” he said, without revealing the exact conversation. What I said to her is between my daughter and I.” he said to BBC.
Alhaji also talked about the journey so far with his daughter. He spoke about how she never relented in the pursuit of her dreams, even when he thought school was a better option for the twenty-eight-year-old.
He added: “We didn’t see a bright future for her in football and my plan was to make sure all my children attained a high level of education and do better than us parents.”
Now that she has become the first Nigerian football player, male or female, to score in three different World Cup competitions, her father is proud of his daughter’s perseverance. She will now be hoping to defeat England in the competition to advance to the FIFA Women’s World Cup quarterfinals.
