Eintracht Frankfurt set to sign Karim Adeyemi’s Nigerian-eligible teammate

Karim Adeyemi’s teammate, who is eligible to play for Nigeria, is set to join Eintracht Frankfurt from Borussia Dortmund.

Karim Adeyemi’s teammate, Nnamdi Collins, is set to join five-time DFB-Pokal winners and German Bundesliga side, Eintracht Frankfurt, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 19-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund from Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2016, when he was just twelve years old and was widely tipped to be a future star for the club, even featuring in the annual kit reveal every season since he joined the club, but that has not been the case.

The German Centre back has mostly played for the reserve team of Borussia Dortmund, BVB II, and never made a single appearance for the senior team.

Despite having the opportunity to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, his teammate Adeyemi, who had previously expressed his love for Nigerian fufu and visited the nation frequently, chose to play for Germany instead and is presently a Senior squad member.

Collins, though, who represented Germany from U-15 through U-18 level, is still entitled to pledge allegiance to the Nigerian National Team owing to his family.

He was linked with a move to Chelsea in 2020, but he turned down the move to sign a new contract with Dortmund, and in 2023, Roma’s Jose Mourinho was reportedly a huge admirer of the teenage sensation and wanted to bring him to the Estadio Olimpico, but Collins chose to move to the Commerzbank Arena.

According to Sport 1, Collins is set to move to Die Adler on a five-year deal, with Dortmund receiving a fee of around one million euros.

Frankfurt are also looking to immediately send him on loan so he can get playing time and develop into a Bundesliga-level defender, and are looking at neighbouring clubs where he can feature as a regular starter.

Dortmund’s legend, who scored the famous Champions League final chip against Juventus in 1997 with Die Schwarzgelben, Lars Ricken hailed 16-year-old Collins as an “outstanding talent in German youth football”, and now at 19, with a move away from the Signal Iduna Park, the centre-back has his sights on breaking into Eintracht’s first team.
