Championship: Ndidi and Iheanacho in action as Leicester beat Coventry in league opener

Iheanacho and Ndidi have been linked with a move away from Leicester City all summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last campaign

Super Eagles stars, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action for Leicester City in their 2-1 victory over Coventry City in their first game of the new Championship season at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports

Ndidi started the club’s first game back in the English second-tier after 9 years and was replaced with Dennis Praet in the 62nd minute, while Iheanacho came on to replace Foxes’ favorite Jamie Vardy with 15 minutes left.

Coventry took the lead just two minutes after the restart through Kyle Mcfadzean before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall responded for Leicester in the 77th minute.

Dewsbury scored his second of the match with three minutes left and handed Enzo Maresca’s side their first win of the season.

Leicester City occupy sixth place in the league table and will face Burton Albion in the EFL Cup in their next match on Wednesday.

In the first game of the season, Southampton claimed a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday with Joe Aribo making his first league appearance of the season for the Saints in the 89th minute.

In the other matches that involved Nigerian players on Saturday, Tom Dele-Bashiru scored the opener in Watford’s 4-0 victory over QPR, while Semi Ajayi featured in Westbrom’s 2-1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers, but new signing Josh Maja was left out of the Baggies’ squad.
