Asisat Oshoala’s teammate’s availability in question for Super Falcons clash at 2023 Women’s World Cup

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are slated to play England in the round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

England’s Lionesses have received a glimmer of hope regarding Keira Walsh’s fitness for their upcoming clash against the Super Falcons in the last 16 of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

The FC Barcelona Femení midfielder, who is also Asisat Oshoala’s club mate, was forced off during a group-stage match against Denmark, raising concerns about her availability for the rest of the tournament.

Initial fears were dispelled after scans revealed that the 26-year-old did not sustain any ligament damage from her knee problem.

As a result, Walsh is not required to return home and is undergoing individual training sessions with England’s medical team. However, she did not participate in full training with the squad ahead of their crucial knockout encounter.

While it seems unlikely that Walsh will feature in the Super Falcons clash, England is optimistic about her potential return if they advance further in the competition.

The midfielder’s fitness will be carefully managed to ensure her readiness for the potential last-16 tie and beyond matches.

As the Lionesses prepare for their showdown against Nigeria on Monday, the absence of Walsh could present challenges for Sarina Wiegman’s side.

However, they remain hopeful that she will make a return to bolster their midfield as they pursue glory in Australia and New Zealand.
