Osimhen has spent three years in Naples, and he has become one of the most popular figures in the city
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has become one of the most popular figures at Naples following his heroics with Napoli last season when he guided them to the Serie A title, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 24-year-old scored 26 goals in the Italian top flight to become the first African to cart home the Capocannoniere. His exploits with the Partenopeans even moved the fans to have a mural of him in the city.
After winning the league last season, Osimhen told Soccernet.ng that Napoli fans were outside his house through the night celebrating.
The Nigerian also acknowledges the fans, as he always stops to take pictures and sign autographs.
This season, the love has not reduced, as he was greeted with a warm welcome by the fans when he returned for pre-season.
For a player, having the fans’ backing is quite important, but when it gets too much, it could be toxic and eventually prompt an unwanted reaction from the player.
In a recent video by Eurofoot, Osimhen was trapped in his car by Napoli fans as they surrounded him and refused to allow him move.
Apparently, he was agitated. He kept shouting at them to give him some space so he could leave, but they refused.
This action by Napoli fans could easily have prompted a rash reaction from other players as they kept banging on Osimhen’s car.
Napoli begin their season on Saturday with a fixture at Frosinone, and Osimhen does not seem like he will stop banging in the goals. If he keeps up with his brilliance, the fans will not stop showing him love, but it must be managed well to avoid a harsh reaction from the player.
