Super Falcons’ players and staff greeted by FIFA officials in Brisbane ahead of World Cup opener against Canada

The Super Falcons will participate in their ninth campaign of the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have arrived at their base camp in Brisbane, Australia, ahead of their opening game against Canada in this year’s edition of the Women’s World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports

The team arrived in Brisbane following a two-week camp in Gold Coast and was received by the FIFA team and the Nigerian community in the city.

Randy Waldrum’s side have been drawn to Group B of the tournament with Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.

They will endeavor to make it past Nigeria’s best quarterfinal stage in the history of the competition.

In a friendly game played before departing from Gold Coast, the Super Falcons thrashed local club Queensland Lions FC 8-1 on Saturday morning.

Barcelona feminine star, Asisat Oshoala scored a brace, while the likes of Rasheedat Ajibade, Monday Gift, Toni Payne, Ifeoma Onumonu, and Uchenna Kanu were also on target.

The team will depart Brisbane on Thursday for Melbourne, where they will play their first game against Olympic champions Canada at the Rectangular Stadium.

Following their game against the CONCACAF representative, the Falcons will play co-host Australia and the Republic of Ireland in their subsequent group matches.
