‘I won’t be surprised’- Super Falcons star Ashleigh Plumptre unveils post-retirement plans

The 25-year-old defender was born in England but made her World Cup debut for the 11-time African Champions against Canada on the 21st of July

Former Leicester City Women defender, Ashleigh Megan Plumptre, has recently opened up about her plans after retiring from professional football, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 25-year-old Nigerian international, who previously played for LA Galaxy OC, decided to represent the Super Falcons to reconnect with her Nigerian heritage and learn more about her ancestry.

Since joining the Super Falcons in 2022, Plumptre has proven to be a valuable asset to Randy Waldrum’s team, showcasing her skills as a talented left-back during their recent match against the Australian Matildas.

With eligibility to play for Nigeria through her Nigerian father and grandfather, Plumptre made her competitive debut for the Super Falcons in their impressive 2-0 victory over Ivory Coast in the first leg of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers.

As her football journey continues, Plumptre has been contemplating her future beyond playing. While she remains uncertain about her exact path, she expressed a strong interest in staying connected to the sport that she loves.

“I am not sure. I won’t be surprised if I stay in football. If I stay in football, I would like to probably do something where I can make a change, and impact communities, or young people’s participation in football,” Plumptre revealed in an interview with Soccernet.ng.

As Plumptre’s career unfolds, fans and supporters eagerly anticipate the positive influence she may have in the world of football and the lives of aspiring young players.
