‘I think we can’ – Promising Super Falcons midfielder eyes FIFA Women’s World Cup final

Super Falcons midfielder, Toni Payne, has commended her Nigerian teammates for the job done so far and speaks on what is yet to come.

Super Falcons attacking midfielder, Antionette Oyedupe Payne, popularly called Toni Payne by the fans, has stated her strong belief in the chances of the team getting to the final of the Fifa Women’s World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

A goalless draw against The Republic of Ireland at the Lang Park, Brisbane saw Coach Randy Waldrum’s side qualify for the round of sixteen, and the versatile player, Payne, who has played primarily as an attacking midfielder for the Super Falcons, put in very impressive performances in all of their group games has shared how she feels with the team and how they can get to the final of the tournament if they stick together.

The 28-year-old, who has completed eleven dribbles at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, mentioned the feeling of ecstasy the team felt after they secured qualification and commended her teammates for the work so far, which has also shown in her performance as an individual.

Speaking to Super Sport after the game, she mentioned how far she thinks the Super Falcons can soar;

“If we play like how we’re playing and improve on each game, I think we can go all the way to the final.”

She also added that qualification was a huge milestone for the team;

“We knew this was going to be the group of death, we knew it was going to be hard, but we never thought it would be impossible.”

Group B featured, Nigeria, Australia, Canada and The Republic of Ireland, but the Super Falcons qualified in second place, going unbeaten in all the group games.
