#FIFAWWC: Canada captain issues stern warning ahead of showdown with Super Falcons

Canada won the women’s football competition at the last Olympics, and they are confident of victory against the Super Falcons at the World Cup

Canada Captain Christine Sinclair has warned the Super Falcons that they can defeat any country at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Soccernet reports.

Nigeria will begin their 2023 World Cup campaign with a tricky game against Canada. The Falcons are Queens of the African continent with nine titles to their name. But they have reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup just once.

The Canadians themselves have never gone past the semifinal of the World Cup, but they showed their prowess at the last Olympic games in Tokyo where they won the gold medal.

Sinclair who is making her 6th appearance at the World Cup believes that their recent success is proof of what they can do and warns that they are prepared to take down all comers at the Mundial in Australia/New Zealand.

“We[Canada] were overlooked heading into the Tokyo Olympics and showed what we can do,” the 40-year-old forward, said at the pre-match conference per Channels TV.

“We can beat any team in the world. It’s contagious (winning), you want to do it again and it’s just motivated us to prove to the world what we can do it again.”

Despite the fact that Canada are favourites, the Super Falcons could bank on history as they have the sligh upperhand over the North Americans. Nigeria has picked up a draw and a win in their last two meetings with Canada at the World Cup.
