AFCON 2023 mascot unveiled as Super Eagles soar into tournament with qualification triumph

The AFCON 2023 tournament is slated to hold in Côte d’Ivoire in January 2024

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has unveiled a captivating tournament mascot for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be opportune to tackle some of the continent’s finest after securing their place in the prestigious tournament with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Sierra Leone in Monrovia.

As the host nation, Ivory Coast welcomes the footballing world with open arms. Their mascot takes centre stage. The mascot, a delightful fusion of the Ivorian national team’s elephant emblem and the local dialect expression “akwaba,” meaning “Welcome,” encapsulates the tournament’s spirit.

This remarkable symbol embodies the warmth and hospitality of the Ivorian people, setting the tone for an extraordinary AFCON experience for football players, officials, and football fans from across the world.

With the excitement surrounding the mascot’s debut, the Super Eagles’ qualification amplifies the buzz surrounding the tournament.

The 2013 AFCON champions join prestigious groups like the reigning champions Senegal, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia, and Zambia in the competition.

Having triumphed over Sierra Leone, the Super Eagles now prepare to soar even higher on the grand AFCON stage with a game to spare against São Tomé and Príncipe.
