The Nigerian star notched 26 goals for Luciano Spalletti’s men, which was crucial in Napoli’s Serie A title success
Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen, recounts what inspired a Serie A victory for Napoli after 33 years of wait, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 24-year-old played a crucial role in the Gli Azzurri’s title race by scoring 26 domestic league goals out of 77 goals scored in total b the Parthenopeans in the just concluded season.
Osimhen, speaking to Soccernet.ng, revealed that the journey of the Scudetto title challenge for him started with a powerful conversation with former Fulham star, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who believes they could challenge AC Milan for the title.
Afterward, under Luciano Spalletti’s guidance, Napoli secured 28 victories, 6 draws, and 4 losses, clinched the title after 33 years of wait.
The Nigerian star, whose impressive performance for his club has sparked interest from top European clubs, recalled to Soccernet.ng what inspired the race for the title.
“When we started at first, some great players left the club. [I mean] the legends of the club. And I recall when we were in the pre-season and after training.
“So, Frank [Anguissa] walked up to me, and we talked about some of the players we saw as rumours coming to the club. And I told him that if we really believe in ourselves, we can win one or two trophies this season. And he said, ‘Of course, anything is possible’, so the coach approached us and joined the conversation.
“And he[Luciano Spalletti] was like, ‘What were we saying?’ and I told him we were discussing our upcoming season. And I told Frank that we can win something if we believe in ourselves. And he said, of course, he is here to guide us and help us if we play as a team and work together as a team. So at the start of the season, I was optimistic that we could do something amazing.
“So the guys that came in also blended well with us, and for the dream, it just became a reality in the space of how many months, and we finally won the scudetto in 33 years. It’s a good feeling for me.” he said.
