2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup: Coach Waldrum hints at unconventional tactics as Super Falcons face Australia

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are scheduled to face Australia’s Maltidas on Thursday in the second Group B tie of the 2023 Women’s World Cup tourney

Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, has suggested he might play some players out of position ahead of the clash against Australia, Soccernet.ng reports.

With Asisat Oshoala facing the race against time to be fit, Waldrum has suggested he might play some players out of their regular positions.

The nine-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions will take on the Matildas today at the Brisbane Stadium in Australia, and might have to do without the Barcelona superstar after picking up a knock in the Falcon’s previous game against Canada.

In an attempt to balance the starting eleven and put out the best winning team against Australia, the American tactician suggested that he might have to play some players out of position.

Speaking to NFF TV, the coach mentioned that he understood the fans’ fears, but reassured them by saying he and the coaching staff are working on putting out the best team to play.

“As a coach, our job is to put out the best eleven players that we can, and sometimes getting the best players on might mean a player gets to play where they would normally not play regularly with their clubs.

“The objective is to get your best team on the field, and that’s what we’ll try to do, whether fans may think we’re playing them out of position or not, and if we didn’t think the players could play in a certain position, we certainly wouldn’t play them there.”

The Super Falcons take on Australia by 11:00 AM today at the Brisbane Stadium and hope to secure all three points to stand a chance to qualify out of Group B.
