Why I invited Ahmed Musa- Peseiro details ahead of 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are scheduled to face Sierra Leone on Sunday, June 18th, with the aim of safeguarding their spot in the 2023 AFCON tournament

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has shed light on his decision to include Sivasspor forward Ahmed Musa in his Super Eagles roster to face Sierra Leone in the upcoming 2023 AFCON qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles captain has faced backlash from the Nigerian football community regarding his inclusion in the squad, despite inconsistent performances at the club level.

In response, Peseiro has emphasized that Musa brings valuable experience and leadership to the team, contributing to the overall team spirit.

His impact was evident during the previous match against Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in March, where he came on as a substitute and put pressure on the opponents’ defence with his crosses and control.

Speaking to the media, the former Sporting CP boss explained the rationale behind Musa’s selection, stating, “When building a team, you consider all situations and actions. I believe Musa can play for us, and we need his core experience, leadership, and command. His presence in the squad will create team spirit, organization, and a sense of unity.”
