The 24-year-old registered 31 goals in all competitions last season to help Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in over three decades.
Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, has reacted to being crowned as the best player in the continent after the 24-year-old beat illustrious names like Salah, Riyadh Mahrez, and Bounou to the award, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen’s best season as a professional player has had him scoop awards and break records, with the latest being his recognition at the Ghana Football Awards.!
Reacting to the award, Osimehn thanked the organizers of the award and expressed his joy in receiving another award.
“It’s a great privilege for me to win this award, it’s a great honor. Thank you to those who voted for me and their support, and major thanks to the organizers of the Ghana Football Awards, for their love and support. I appreciate this recognition, I will keep making Africa proud.” he said.
The former Lille of France striker scored 26 goals last season in the league and was rewarded with the feat of being the first Nigerian to win the league’s top scorer award.
His five goals in the Champions League contributed to Napoli’s run to the last eight for the first in their history.
The 24-year-old went further to break the former World Player of the Year George Weah’s long-time record as the African player with the highest number of goals in the league’s history.
His outstanding form also contributed seven goals to Nigeria securing an early ticket to the African Cup of Nations.
There is no doubt that he will look forward to rounding off his outstanding year with the CAF Player of the Year award.
