“The best in this group”- Coach Peseiro reacts after Super Eagles victory against Sierra Leone

Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone with a score of 3 goals to 2, at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia

Head coach Jose Peseiro expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, acknowledging the challenges they faced throughout the match, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria exhibited their resilience and determination as they triumphed over the Sierra Leone Stars with a thrilling 3-2 victory in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The former Sporting CP expressed his belief that the Super Eagles are the best team in their group, highlighting their exceptional performance and resilience throughout the match.

Napoli star, Victor Osimhen, put Peseiro’s troops in front with his brace, but John Kiester’s men level the scoreline thanks to Mustapha Bundu, and Crotone forward, Augustus Kargbo.

However, in the last minute of the game, Porto FC left-back, Zaidu Sanusi, drove to the heart of the Leoneans’ defence, and sent a cross to Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, who sealed the victory for the Nigerians.

Peseiro, commenting on the hard-fought encounter, commended his team, and acknowledged the tenacity of the game.

“Our team qualified. It was a hard match. Our team never gave up. We fought till the end. Sierra Leone did a fantastic job. In the first half, we created 7 to 8 clear opportunities and only scored twice [The same] in the second half. But, you have to win. It was a very good match,” he said.

The Super Eagles showcased their dominance on the field, creating numerous scoring chances and converting them into goals.

Peseiro praised his players for their relentless efforts, stating, “Our team is the best in this group. I think we did a good job today against a good team. It was a very hard match. I am very happy with my players. Congratulations to my players because it is not easy.”

The match was a testament to Nigeria’s strength as they encountered a determined Sierra Leone side. After a draw, the Super Eagles displayed their character and determination to secure a vital victory.

Peseiro commended the atmosphere and acknowledged the challenge they faced when the score was level.

“After 2-2, it was not easy here with the atmosphere, but they kept fighting. I think it was 4-4 three years ago in Abuja, but the players scored after 2-2 down to put us in the first position, our real position,” Peseiro added.

  • Big deal. Nigeria needs a better coach. I never rate Preseiro. The selection error he made in the defense is glaring for all to see as we conceded two goals in a match we could have won effortlessly.
