Super Eagles vice-captain Troost-Ekong reveals to Nigerians what to expect in Sierra Leone AFCON Q clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to face Sierra Leone on Sunday, in their bid to safeguard their AFCON 2023 tickets

Watford FC defender, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed his confidence in the Nigerian national team’s determination to secure qualification as they prepare to face Sierra Leone in Liberia.

In an exclusive report with Soccernet.ng, the 29-year-old star, who recently played for US Salernitana in Serie A, assured fans that the team is focused on securing three points from the upcoming match.

Currently sitting second in Group A of the AFCON qualification table, with Guinea-Bissau in the lead, Nigeria aims to close the gap and solidify their position.

Troost Ekong emphasized that the team is still motivated by their disappointing exit from the 2021 AFCON tournament, and their ultimate goal is to win the trophy after a decade-long wait. However, their immediate priority is to secure a victory against Sierra Leone.

“I think you should expect a team that is ready to fight for this job. Everyone still has in mind, the last AFCON, how everything started, and how we wanted to do well, but eventually, we got knocked out. So all of us here want to be part of the AFCON again.

“So this is a great opportunity for us to repay our coach, and also give something back to the fans, and I hope we make the people proud in Ivory Coast, but before all of that, we have to prepare hard against Sierra Leone, which is a good team with so much respect, and yeah we are definitely going there to get all three points,” he said to Soccernet.ng.
