“I’m still the first assistant to Jose Peseiro”- Finidi George clarifies position with Super Eagles

The confidence offered by George’s interview inspires a feeling of stability as Nigerian football fans eagerly anticipate the commencement of the national team camp

Former Ajax FC Star, Finidi George, has confirmed his status within the Super Eagles coaching staff In the wake of recent rumours over his future with the team, Soccernet.ng reports.

After a report by various media outlets indicated that he was shown the exit door from the coaching staff post, there have been reports and doubts regarding his status in the Super Eagles camp. His absence from the most recent camp in Abuja has, however, cast doubt on the assertions.

Finidi, coach of Enyimba and first assistant coach of the Super Eagles, admits on Sports Salsa (Kennis 104.1FM) that he is still the first assistant, denying prior rumours and that he would be in camp when things don’t turn sour.

On June 18, the Nigerian Super Eagles are scheduled to face Sierra Leone in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. According to reports, the team’s camp would commence a week before the game.

In an exclusive interview with Sports Salsa on Kennis 104.1FM with Mix Master Mitchell Obi(Dsc), Finidi discussed his role in the next national team camp.

“I’m still the first assistant to Jose Peseiro and will come next week. I think the camp opens for the players to come. And I think I’ll be there if things don’t get twisted. But first thing first, let me finish this duty with Enyimba, and if things go well, I will be in camp.” He said.
