Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has soared to new heights as he secures a spot in Ligue 1 Uber Eats’ prestigious African Best XI of the Season, Soccernet.ng reports.
The vibrant forward’s remarkable performances have not gone unnoticed, as he joins an illustrious group of players in this star-studded lineup.
Ligue 1’s African team of the season has representatives from seven nations gracing a 4-3-3 formation. Among these gifted individuals, Terem Moffi’s name stands tall, proudly representing Nigeria.
Throughout the season, the 24-year-old dynamo showcased his undeniable talent, netting 18 goals and adding three assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances.
Starting his campaign with FC Lorient, where he notched 12 goals, Moffi’s brilliance caught the attention of OGC Nice, who secured his services on loan in January.
Unfazed by the mid-season switch, he seamlessly adapted and continued his goal-scoring spree, adding another six strikes to his tally for Nice.
In a remarkable feat, Moffi’s 18-goal haul sets a new landmark in French football. The 24-year-old’s goal haul surpassed Victor Ikpeba’s impressive 16 goals achieved in the late nineties for Monaco – becoming the most prolific Nigerian in a single Ligue 1 campaign.
With such exceptional contributions, it is no surprise that Ligue 1 has bestowed this remarkable honour upon Moffi.
Moffi was placed on the right side of a formidable attacking trio, alongside Mali’s Mama Balde and Strasbourg’s goal machine Habib Diallo.
However, while the accolades continue to pour in for the talented forward, there is a hint of disappointment.
Surprisingly, Moffi’s inclusion in the Ligue 1 African Best XI was not mirrored in his national team selection.
Nigeria’s head coach Jose Peseiro did not include the former Kortrijk ace in the 23-man squad set to face Sierra Leone later this month.
