FIFA Rankings: Super Eagles climb up one spot but remain outside Africa’s top five

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone earlier in June, but it did not have a big effect on their ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed up one spot to 39th in the latest FIFA rankings, but they remain sixth in Africa, Soccernet reports.

Nigeria was in 40th place when the last rankings were released by the world football governing body FIFA in April. They were also outside the top five at the last ranking.

However, following the last international break when they beat Sierra Leone 3-2 in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, the Super Eagles jumped to 39th.

However, they remain rooted to sixth in Africa. Nigeria is behind Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt.

The Atlas Lions remain Africa’s best-placed team at 11, and it is not a surprise especially because they finished fourth at the last World Cup in Qatar.

Senegal are placed 18th, Tunisia are 31st, Algeria are 33rd, and Egypt are the fifth-best African nation as they sit in 34th place.

World Champions Argentina are 1st, while France, Brazil, England, and Belgium occupy the 2nd-5th place respectively.

Croatia, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, and Spain complete the top ten.
